What does applying it yourself involve?
Microcement is applied in at least four steps: primer, base layer with mesh, two finishing layers and a top coat in two coats. Every layer has to be trowelled evenly, thinly and without overlaps, and sanded in between. The finishing layers determine the pattern: too much pressure gives dark patches, too little material gives bare spots. The two component top coat must be mixed exactly and applied within its working time.
Where does it usually go wrong?
- Substrate. Loose tiles, moisture or an uneven screed always show in the end result.
- Overlaps and patches. Keeping large areas wet in one go is hard without experience and two people.
- Top coat. A top coat that is too thin or uneven lets water through in the bathroom.
- Colour. Self mixed colours differ per bucket, making a floor blotchy.
When can you do it yourself?
A coffee table, a vanity unit or a feature wall in the living room are good first projects. The surface is small, a mistake can be fixed and there is no standing water. Later we will offer DIY kits with the same materials we use ourselves.
When do you hire a professional?
Floors, stairs, bathrooms, showers, kitchen worktops and anything outdoors. Here wear resistance, waterproofing and an even result over large areas matter. A specialist also gives a guarantee on the work. At Sólida we inspect the substrate beforehand, choose the right line and work with a fixed team. Request a quote or visit the home showroom.
